In my experience university harbours an array of eccentric characters with whom we entrust our future. What are your experiences with lecturers? Have they inspired and motivated you or made you vow never to continue down the path of your degree?

The people I was taught by made me strive to become a writer.. It wasn’t the conventional 'here’s a syllabus now let see how much you remember'. I had nothing but support from my lecturers who made me see my potential so I owe a debt of gratitude for that.

My English lecturer was a bit of an odd one. He had really long wavy hair and always sported trousers that looked liked they once framed his grandmother’s windows. Despite his crazy image he seemed a bit frightened of us students, he would look away when talking to one of us and frantically flick his hair. We would walk towards him sometimes for a laugh and then turn sharply. I think he became aware of it and once asked “yes lads?” to which I replied “er yeah” and unable to think of a response I headed toward the door sharpish, I felt like a bit of a t*** to be honest.

My life at uni would not been the same if wasn’t for this lecturer - she’s unlike any other. This woman would sell her soul to help you, her effort, her enthusiasm for her work, her job and us. I call her the ‘bubble lady’ as in every lecture she would link a message in though an anecdote that would leave you smiling and chuckling for days. She always loved to get involved, she showed us her personality. She is an astonishing and inspiring person that I will miss greatly."

University allows us to mix with people from all over the globe. Has this added to your university experience?

What springs to mind is my introduction to Jägermeister by my new German friends. I’d challenged them to a drinking game which involved us and a litre bottle of the stuff, thinking it was just like the German equivalent of vodka and I’d be able to handle it. I was wrong. I managed two and a bit and conked out. They left me asleep on the kitchen bench and took photos. They never let it go throughout my entire stay at uni!

The funniest experience I had at uni was when my Australian friend saw snow for the first time! He was absolutely amazed. Though he got really frustrated as he was trying to catch the snowflakes to see the pattern and they kept melting. He stayed outside for about an hour and a half after everyone else had gone inside for warmth..."

What are your experiences of going out at uni? Any episodes you’d rather forget?

I remember going out in these ridiculous, wedged shoes in order to impress my new friends. Within ten minutes of wearing them my feet were aching terribly and my toes bleeding. I decided alcohol was the answer and got on with the night. Upon leaving we went for kebabs etc and apparently I stood wailing in the middle of the pavement refusing to move any further. My now-housemate swapped her boots for my shoes in the middle of the street. I inevitably fell over and I seem to remember this random bloke getting involved in the operation (trying to hold me up I think) which after a considerable amount of time proved successful.

I met this gay chap on the first night that we were all taken out to the SU. He seemed like a laugh though a tad boastful particularly where dancing was concerned. He dragged me to the dancefloor and began to perform like those clubbing moves everyone learns when they’re a kid except he moved his whole body in a kind of wiggly motion. I was so embarrassed I couldn’t look at him. I got used to it though and joined in a few times (after a few)!
